The 3M™ PTFE Skived Film Tape 5481 is an advanced tape solution offering a smooth, non-stick surface with excellent durability and chemical resistance, designed for various industrial applications. Its unique combination of PTFE film and silicone adhesive makes it ideal for high-performance tasks.

Key Properties

  • Adhesion to Steel: 32 oz./in. width (35 N/100 mm)
  • Tensile Strength: 59 lbs./in. width (1039 N/100 mm)
  • Elongation at Break: 290%
  • Backing Thickness: 5.0 mils (0.13 mm)
  • Total Tape Thickness: 6.8 mils (0.17 mm)
  • Temperature Range: -65°F to 500°F (-54°C to 260°C)

Features

  • Constructed with skived PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) for a conformable, low-friction surface.
  • Silicone adhesive enables clean removal from a variety of surfaces.
  • Exceptional resistance to chemicals, excluding organic solvents which may attack the silicone adhesive.
  • Non-stick PTFE film creates a slick surface for easy clean-up, minimizing build-up of sticky materials.

Applications

  • Provides an easy-release surface for wrapping rollers, plates, belts, and more to prevent build-up of inks or sticky materials.
  • Acts as a mold release agent for composite or metal bonding applications.
  • Effective in high-temperature wire bundling and harnessing due to its wide temperature range.
  • Helps shield and protect surfaces from chemical exposure.
  • Reduces friction, minimizing squeaks and noise between surfaces.
  • Suitable for heated machinery and equipment, withstanding temperatures up to 500°F (260°C).

Storage and Shelf Life

  • Storage Conditions: 60°F to 80°F (16°C to 27°C) and 40% to 60% relative humidity.
  • Shelf Life: Best used within 24 months from the date of manufacture for optimal performance.

Safety Precautions

When exposed to temperatures above 600°F (316°C), the tape may release hazardous vapors that could cause respiratory irritation. Avoid heating or exposing the tape to such high temperatures.
